About

Transcriber turns audio and video into subtitles on your Mac. Recognition runs locally with Whisper models on the GPU and the Neural Engine; an optional last step sends the subtitles to a language model of your choice to polish or translate them.

  • Queue several files.
  • Edit the result in the built-in subtitle editor and re-transcribe a range.
  • Export to the usual subtitle formats.

Models

Models are not bundled with the app. Put them in the models folder set in Settings, by default ~/Library/Application Support/Transcriber/Models.

Update and uninstall

Update to the latest version:

brew upgrade --cask transcriber

Remove the app:

brew uninstall --cask transcriber

Remove the app and everything it keeps on disk:

brew uninstall --zap --cask transcriber

This also deletes:

  • ~/Library/Application Support/Transcriber
  • ~/Library/Caches/dev.shisheng.Transcriber
  • ~/Library/Preferences/dev.shisheng.Transcriber.plist
  • ~/Library/Saved Application State/dev.shisheng.Transcriber.savedState
